All clocks were synchronized for an 8am wake up which we all met easily, having accepted jetlag as 'purely mental.' Breakfast was bland at best but considering the team's new adopted training / diet regime (including weigh ins) it was all that was allowed. We rolled out just after 9.30 eager to get at least 4 hours under our belt before tomorrow's first Kermesse race in Aartselaar. The canals stretched for miles and the scenery was green as far as the eye could see. Glenn introduced us to a nasty 2.5km section of cobbles which was about as fun as bashing your head against a brick wall. There is definitely an art to it and we are sometime away from mastering it. The plus side was every stretch of road felt like marble after the 'kinder copiers' (baby's heads).
Belgium isn't known for its great coffee and the town of Turnhout did its best to keep that ringing true. The cappuccino was more like a piss poor attempt at laundry water. We rode the canals for at least 35km which was extremely tranquil. Not a breath of wind made it possible to sit 40kmph breathing through a straw. Another stop at Van Iykes for a chat and supplies was made before heading home the long way finally rolling in with 120km on the clock.
Lunch was a feast of gourmet rolls & yoghurt which was demolished as soon as it hit the plate. The rest of the afternoon was low key mainly spent doing washing, planning a race schedule and lounging around watching the tour of spain. Brett organised dinner while Glenn gave the bikes a quick spruce up. After dinner we had a lengthy stretch session and put our feet up to rest before tomorrows big race.
